William von Mueffling

Biography

William von Mueffling studied at Columbia University (BA 1990, MBA 1995) and worked in equity research at Deutsche Bank before joining Lazard Asset Management, where he became a managing director. He left Lazard in 2003 to found Cantillon Capital Management. Cantillon started as a hedge fund; in 2009 he closed the hedge fund, returning about $3.5 billion to investors, and kept a long-only business.
